“Failed to Register” Error on DLL Files During the KnowItAll Installation
Question:
One or more DLL files “Failed to Register” during the KnowItAll installation. What can I do to fix this error?
Answer:
The steps below should correct the problem:
- Update Windows until your version of Windows is up to date. This option is available under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update.
- Uninstall Bio-Rad KnowItAll from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. Parts of KnowItAll may or may not still be present after a failed installation even if the software is not accessible.(2B. If installing in a Windows 7 environment, Install Universal Runtime from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2999226/update-for-universal-c-runtime-in-windows)
- Manually install the Visual Studio 2017 Redistributable. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads and select your downloads using the parameters described in step 4.
- Select vc_redist.x86.exe if your version of Windows is 32 bit or both vc_redist.x64.exe and vc_redist.x86.exe if your version of Windows is 64 bit.
- After the download (or downloads) finish, please install your selected download(s).
- Install KnowItAll.
